Korean actor Lee Jun-ki will receive an award for his contribution in promoting Korea’s traditional martial arts to the public through his work, according to his agency on Thursday.

Mentor Entertainment announced in a press release that the Korea Martial Arts Coalition (KMAC) will hand Lee the Martial Arts Actor award at an awards ceremony on December 20.

Lee had done martial arts in the SBS drama “Iljimae” and MBC’s “Time Between Dog And Wolf.”

“When I’m doing action scenes, I can show the beauty of the physical body as well as the beauty of action movements,” Lee was quoted as saying. “To me, all the wounds I’ve gotten from doing action scenes feel like badges of honor. I am very honored and grateful to receive this award.”

An official at KMAC explained that there has been a growing interest in the media to promote traditional martial arts to the general public and that Lee’s work in his dramas have helped raise awareness of the sport.

Lee shot to instant stardom in 2005 playing a woman-like clown in the hit film “The King and the Clown” and was recently voted the most popular Korean Wave star in China. He currently stars in MBC TV series “Hero” as a passionate reporter working for a third-rate magazine.

Candidated for the Grand Acting Award,

25 12 2008

The candidates for the Grand Acting Award in the 3 different broadcasting companies are receiving people’s attentions.

In each of the broadcasting companies, the candidates are quite dazzling. In some cases, the title of the drama and the character matches perfectly and some of the other important individuals in the drama are roasting up a hot attention this end of year. Most of the time, the viewing rates were exceptionally high during the airing of the drama so each of the main characters received a lot of attention to begin with.

Especially, through MBC ‘Time between dog and wolf’, Lee Jun Ki who showed off his great acting skills last year did really well in this year’s SBS ‘Iljimae’, solidifying his presence during the drama airing time. Currently, Kim Bum Soo, Kim Ha Neul, Park Yong Ha, Song Yoon Ah, etc. from ‘On Air’, Oh Hyun Kyung from ‘Wife club’, Park Shin Yang and Mun Geun Young from ‘Painter of the Wind’ etc. These strong candidates are all competing for the award.

The reason why Lee Jun Ki stands out is because he is in good terms due to the high viewing rates and his acting skills. ‘Iljimae’ was a hero drama, which wasn’t a trend back then, but he still managed to receive viewing rates higher than 30%. Most of the actors and actresses in the drama turned their honor to Lee Jun Ki for the drama’s success after the drama has ended.

Title-roll refers to an actor/actress who has helped at least halfway of the making the drama with just the main character’s strength. Similar to Lee Jun Ki case, in the MBC weekend drama ‘Invincible Park Jung Geum’, there’s Bae Jong Ok. In the SBS drama ‘My man’s girl’, the three characters participated in their role evenly whereas in the ‘Invincible Park Jung Geum’, it’s special that the drama was aired with mostly the main character’s strength.

Not only upgrading the recessing MBC weekend drama, the drama also was thought of as a title-role. Due to this, Bae Jong Ok, Kim Sun Ah, Lee Mi Sook, Choi Jin Sil was all nominated for the Best Acting award. Moreover, they might even look over the Grand Acting Award with 7 additional candidates.

On the other hand, the KBS Grand Acting Award is planned to have a warm atmosphere with the harmony of the old and the new. In this year Best Acting award, the 4 experienced actors/actresses are included as the candidates Lee Soon Jae, Baek Il Sup, Kim Hae Ja, Jang Mi Hee from the ‘My mom’s angry’ as well as Kim Myung Kil from ‘King Sae-Jong’. These are rather young actors/actresses Kim Sang Kyung, Kang Ji Hwan, Song Il Gook, Kim Ji Soo.

The main character from ‘My mom’s angry’, Kim Hae Ja is a strong candidate as the Grand Prize Award despite her position as an experienced actress. This is also due to the drama’s title-role as ‘Mom’. This drama had the highest rating this year due to the all the actors/actresses efforts and Kim Hae Ja’s role in this drama was huge.

Anyways, Lee Jun Ki, Bae Jong Ok, and Kim Hae Ja, the three main characters in each of the broadcasting companies are spending an anxious holiday.

Acknowledged drama, “Time Between Dog and Wolf” (MBC) shined at the Seoul Drama Awards 2008.

“Time Between Dog and Wolf” had a good storyline and the actors had a solid reputation but, received low ratings of viewers.

Last year MBC’s target casting, main actor/actress Lee Jun Ki and Nam Sang Mi was a bit unsatisfied when the drama ended but, at the Seoul Drama Awards, netizens voted it as the best drama.

As they received the awards on that day, Yoon Shin Ae (producer), who put in a lot of effort during the 3 years to make this “Time Between Dog and Wolf opening” happen, thanks everyone. “Nowadays, it’s so hard to make a good drama, but I will keep trying harder and do my best,” she said happily in her speech.
