This is the most anticipated drama for the later part of 2009 and has garnered the most attention. With the latest entry of MBS new drama “Hero” on 18 Nov, a fierce and huge battle for audience ratings will formally commence.
Competing with “Hero” is KBS “Iris” and with its star studded cast, movie like cinematography and well choreographed action scenes, it has attracted many male audience who form the main group for its drama ratings while SBS “You’re beautiful” is a story that traces the development of a group of young idols and appeals to the 10 to 20 years age group of audience and in the fierce battle between these two dramas, they each have their own supporters.
The forthcoming MBC drama “Hero” is a light hearted, humorous story that merrily narrates the confrontations between a hot blooded youth who is filled with warmth and righteousness and the unreasonable higher society. Especially with a dream cast comprising of new and experienced actors of every age group, many viewers’ attention are drawn to the question of whether the cast is able to deliver a “Happy Virus” type of TV drama.
Through depicting the struggles of a young person’s dream to establish a righteous society, Hero is a drama that delivers a warm, inspiring and comical story that appeals to the general hardworking population who form the largest segment of audience, hence arousing the curiosity of many even during the earlier stages of production. With a carefree and humorous main storyline, the drama was selected by Lee Jun Ki as his next work for his return to the screen after 2 years and this has further attracted both local and international attention.
In addition, with artistes such as Baek Yoon Shik , the well established middle aged actor who returns to the acting scene after an absence 6 years; Yoon Su-Yi, one of the Korea’s best action actress who has established herself through many roles; Eom Ki Joon who has recieved good reviews for his acting and has strong support and love of female audience; and renowned comedian Lee Han Wei who plays a key supporting role in the comedy scenes and others forming the cast members of “Hero”, everyone’s anticipation has been heightened.
In “Hero”, Jin Do Hyuk (Lee Jun Ki) and Kang Hae Seong (Eom Ki Joon) represent the extreme ends of good and evil respectively and they have a contentious relationship. Through their exciting confrontations, the passions, hopes, dreams, ideals of hot blooded youth are revealed. Through the use of “good is virtue and bad is evil” approach, the drama portrays these two personalities who in fact share many similar characteristics. As supporting actors providing key comic relief in “Hero”, the sensible wisdom of Baek Yoon Shik against Lee Han Wei’s nonsensical light heartedness is especially comical, making the drama even more amusing.
In addition, acting the role of the mother of the female lead Joo Jae In (Yoon Su-yi) is key actress Lee Hye Sook who is well loved for her gracefulness and portrayals in many varying roles. In this drama, she portrays an older woman with the heart of a young woman and is pursued romantically by Lee Han Wei, giving rise to even more comical scenes.
Lee Jun Ki has presented a dream collaboration with senior Lee Moon Shik in ”Fly Daddy Fly” and “Ijimae”. In “Hero”, he will “learn a trick or two” from the highly skilled Baek Yoon Shik , a choice actor whom anyone would pray hard to work with , and will share the same stage with Lee Han Wei the ultimate comedian, and once again present to everyone a dream drama collaboration with his seniors.
Lee Jun Ki who plays the role of Jin Do Hyuk expressed “ in this piece of work, there will be several appearances by various personalities who have not been seen previously on TV dramas. One of the most outstanding features of “Hero” will be the dream collaboration with my seniors, juniors and every cast member.”
The PD, Kim Hyung Hee, indicated that “If you think of “Hero” main actors and characters as in “The Wizard of Oz”, it is easy to understand. Just like the scarecrow without a brain, the tin man without a heart and the cowardly lion who together overcame all the dangers they encountered through the use of their wisdom, and in the end, just like a dream come true, a dream like performance by all new and senior artistes, a unique cooperation between the lead and supporting actors which results in a “ real Hero”.
We look forward to finding out whether the MBC’s new drama “Hero” is able to move the audience through the dream collaboration of new and senior artistes and become the real “Hero”.
A drama that represents the lowest level of ordinary Koreans, a touching and humorous heroic story which brings joy, warm and relief to everyone, “Hero” premieres on 18 Nov.
